Summary

This hand-carved Bobo Aung by Por Sala Tan honours one of the most revered figures in Burmese spiritual tradition. Individually carved from wood collected in the mountains of Myanmar, each figure reflects the master's appreciation for both Burmese alchemical lineages and traditional forest wicha.

The figure is crowned with a ring of Jindamanee beads, representing wisdom, auspicious blessings and the transmission of sacred knowledge. According to Por Sala Tan, these beads were added to strengthen the amulet's Baramee and harmonise the blessings of protection, prosperity and spiritual development.

Blessed together with respected Lersi practitioners and monks along the Thai–Myanmar border, this amulet combines Burmese spiritual heritage with Por Sala Tan's own ritual lineage.

Historical Background

Bobo Aung, also known as Bo Bo Aung, occupies an honoured place in Burmese folklore and esoteric tradition. He is remembered as an enlightened hermit, alchemist and practitioner of profound meditation whose life became associated with compassion, wisdom and miraculous abilities.

According to Burmese tradition, Bobo Aung mastered ancient alchemical sciences, the four elements and deep meditative practices. His teachings became closely linked with the pursuit of virtue, wisdom and spiritual attainment, inspiring generations of monks, hermits and lay practitioners.

His influence extended throughout Myanmar and into neighbouring regions, where many masters continue to honour him through statues, sacred images and ritual ceremonies.

Origins of the Materials

Each Bobo Aung figure is individually hand-carved from carefully selected wood gathered from the mountainous forests of Myanmar.

Por Sala Tan believed that timber from these remote forests carries the quiet energy of ancient meditation grounds and long-standing spiritual traditions. Every carving is completed by hand, allowing the natural grain and character of the wood to remain visible beneath its gilded finish.

Around the crown is a circle of Jindamanee beads. Within traditional Burmese and Thai esoteric practice, Jindamanee symbolises wisdom, auspicious fortune and sacred knowledge. Their inclusion reflects the qualities traditionally associated with Bobo Aung as a teacher and accomplished practitioner of alchemical wicha.

Ritual

After carving, each figure underwent consecration through meditation, chanting and traditional blessing ceremonies.

Por Sala Tan joined respected Lersi practitioners and monks near the Thai–Myanmar border to complete the blessing, focusing on Baramee, wisdom, protection and prosperity.

The Jindamanee beads were incorporated as part of the completed ritual, symbolising the continuous transmission of spiritual knowledge and auspicious blessings.

Traditional Blessings

Traditionally, Bobo Aung is associated with:

  • Baramee and spiritual authority.
  • Wisdom and sound judgement.
  • Protection from danger and harmful influences.
  • Prosperity and favourable opportunities.
  • Guidance from teachers, mentors and benefactors.
  • Success through perseverance and virtue.

Modern Application

Today, Bobo Aung is especially suitable for business owners, entrepreneurs, professionals and collectors seeking guidance alongside protection.

Many also carry the amulet while travelling, studying or beginning new ventures, believing it supports clear thinking, patience and steady progress towards long-term goals.

Physical Details

This example is individually hand-carved from Burmese mountain wood before being finished with traditional gilding.

The figure depicts Bobo Aung seated in meditation, wearing his characteristic robe and ceremonial headpiece. Around the crown is a ring of Jindamanee beads, carefully positioned as part of the completed consecration.

The amulet is enclosed within a custom clear waterproof casing suitable for everyday wear.

Each figure is individually carved from natural wood before the Jindamanee beads are added and the consecration completed. Variations in the wood grain, carving, gilding and bead arrangement naturally occur, making every Bobo Aung unique.

Personal Notes

Por Sala Tan held deep respect for the Burmese spiritual traditions surrounding Bobo Aung. By carving each figure from mountain wood gathered in Myanmar and adorning it with Jindamanee beads, he sought to preserve the symbolism of wisdom, virtue and spiritual attainment associated with the great hermit.

The combination of hand-carved craftsmanship, natural Burmese wood, sacred Jindamanee beads and traditional border-lineage blessings makes this piece a distinctive example of the close relationship between Northern Thai and Burmese esoteric traditions, reflecting both cultural heritage and enduring faith.
