Personal Experiences Shared by Luksits

This particular Mae Per has an unusual history within Por Sala Tan’s own family. It originally belonged to Por Sala Tan’s third son, who was only around sixteen years old at the time. In those days, particularly in rural Thailand, marrying at a young age was still relatively common, and the family had begun looking for a suitable wife for him. Several attempts at matchmaking were made, but because of his young age, none progressed successfully.

Seeing the situation, Por Sala Tan personally gave his son this Mae Per to carry. Not long afterwards, something unexpected happened. Instead of struggling to find a match, word began spreading among neighbouring families and young women, and interest in him increased rapidly. What had started as unsuccessful matchmaking eventually resulted in around fifteen girls being presented as potential marriage partners or expressing interest in him.

His son eventually selected the woman he wished to marry and kept this Mae Per in his possession. The piece therefore carries a particularly interesting provenance: rather than being made simply for an unknown devotee, it was personally given by Por Sala Tan to his own third son during an important period of his life and remained with him thereafter.
