Por Sala Tan’s Original Sakyant Rod Set (Circa B.E. 2500)

This is more for collectors of Por Sala Tan personal effects, this piece CANNOT be used any more as it is too old and will be unsanitary. Below is some information on the piece.

Cast Iron Yant Rod with Monkey Symbol | Burmese Wood Inkwell Shaft | Direct Ritual Use

This is an original Sakyant rod set used by Por Sala Tan. Unlike the more modern sakyant tools seen today, this set dates back to approximately B.E. 2500 (circa 1957)—making it over 65 years old.

⚒️ The Yant Rod (Main Piercing Tool)

  • Material: Cast Iron, not modern steel

  • Casting: Believed to be formed from melted takruts, yantras, and other holy remnants, following the old tradition of ritual alloying

  • Design:

    • Top motif is a kneeling monkey, hands in wai position

    • In Lanna symbolism, this monkey represents intelligence, adaptability, and spiritual cleverness—essential traits in navigating both worldly and spiritual life

  • Function: The top portion served as a counterweight, allowing controlled pressure during chanting and inscription.

  • Connection point: A string or later, a rubber tube, would be tied between the rod and the inkwell to provide a continuous ink feed during the sakyant process.

🌳 The Inkwell Shaft (Base Component)

  • Material: Carved Burmese timber, known for its durability.

  • Condition: Charred and blackened from repeated ritual exposure, decades of ink stains, and aging

  • Usage:

    • The cavity was filled with sacred ink mixtures used for sakyant

🔮 Ritual and Spiritual Significance

Por Sala Tan was known to perform sakyant not just for aesthetic purposes, but as deeply spiritual rituals involving protection, baramee (spiritual prestige), and karmic redirection. This rod was used in the actual yantra transmission process, connecting the master’s chants, the ink, and the recipient’s body as a complete flow of energy.

Owning a rod of this nature is akin to holding a living artifact of Lanna esoteric history—one that has seen real ceremonies, real disciples, and real spiritual work.
