In the 1990s, when Luang Phor Phrom’s name was especially prominent among devotees and businessmen, a senior friend who first introduced me to this master shared a story that stayed with me.

At the time, his business was struggling under heavy debt. He had made matters worse through gambling, losing money he did not have until every available credit line with the banks was exhausted. With creditors pressing him and no clear way forward, he went to seek Luang Phor Phrom’s blessing.

Luang Phor Phrom gave him a Phra Nur Pong Roop Muean, which he wore in a simple plastic casing. Slowly, circumstances began to change. Long-outstanding debtors started repaying him; then several businessmen in his own trade offered him credit for raw materials. That support gave him room to trade again, make his first proper profit, and begin repaying the banks.

Over time, he rebuilt the company into a business with more than $10 million in annual revenue, eventually selling it before retirement. He always told me that the Roop Muean and this Phra Kring were the two pieces that changed his life.

When his fortunes improved, he framed both pieces in thick gold. Today, this both the Prah Roop Meaun and Phra Kring are worn by his son, who has become a successful lawyer. It is a story of faith, but also of rebuilding through courage, discipline, and recognising the opportunities that appear when one refuses to give up. I am lucky to have sourced this highly rare piece.

Summary

This is the Phra Kring Chai Chanat, or Victory Phra Kring, of Luang Phor Phrom from Wat Khanon Nuea, Ayutthaya. Created in BE 2527, it is among the most important and carefully documented later-era castings associated with this great master.

Made from sacred Nawa Loha, the traditional nine-metal alloy, only 180 pieces were created. This example is individually numbered 105 of 180, with its serial mark visible on the side. It is housed in a 90% custom-made gold casing, giving this rare 1.5-inch Phra Kring the presence it deserves.

Historical Background

Luang Phor Phrom of Wat Khanon Nuea was one of the most revered masters of the Ayutthaya region. His sacred objects have long been sought by devotees for their association with protection, metta, resilience, personal strength, and support in business and livelihood.

The Chai Chanat edition was commissioned in BE 2527 under the initiative of Khun Wanchai Sae-Hun. It was not a casual production, but a full traditional Phra Kring undertaking involving respected monks, ritual specialists, sacred materials, and a formal Buddha Abhiseka ceremony.

The name Chai Chanat, meaning victory, reflects the spirit of the edition: overcoming obstacles, standing firm through adversity, and progressing with strength and clarity.

Origins of the Materials

This Phra Kring was cast from Nawa Loha, the classic nine-metal alloy traditionally used for important Thai sacred castings. The alloy was prepared according to the old Wat Suthat formula, a lineage admired for its demanding approach to metal blending and ritual preparation.

The casting material also incorporated sacred chanuan—remnant metals retained from earlier consecration ceremonies—alongside 108 holy powders and hair relics of:

• Somdet Phra Sangharaja Pae

• Luang Phor Phrom

This combination makes the piece meaningful not only as an image of Luang Phor Phrom, but as a casting carrying several respected lines of blessing within its metal body.

Ritual

The casting ceremony took place at Wat Hong Rattanaram in Bangkok on 10 August BE 2527. It followed the traditional Din Thai mould-casting method, an old Thai process reserved for sacred metal images.

The Buddha Abhiseka was attended by ten distinguished monks and masters, with Luang Phor Phrom as the principal officiant. The ceremony included senior monks from Wat Suthat as well as respected masters from Wat Arun, Wat Kaew Charoen, Wat Thung Lat Ya, Wat Tha Sao, Wat Chakkrawat, Wat Hong Rattanaram, and Wat Khanon Nuea.

Ajarn Niran Daengwijit, also known as Ajarn Nu, served as master of ceremony, assisted by Ajarn Kitja Wajasatja and Ajarn Boonlue Oprasert. After casting and blessing, each image was sealed with its base plate.

The consecration did not end there. In BE 2528, Luang Phor Phrom personally continued blessing the batch throughout a full three-month rainy retreat, giving the edition an unusually complete ritual history.
