This rare and revered cast medal of Phra Khandhararat is a true relic of early 20th-century Thai Buddhist craftsmanship. Cast in BE 2473 (1930) during the tenure of Chao Khun Choti, former abbot of Wat Phra Pathom Chedi, this is the first batch of the famous Phra Khandhararat medals—recognized for both spiritual power and refined artistry.
The piece offered here is the popular “Large Champaka Petal” mold, a design distinguished by its deep, crisp lines, elegant curvature, and commanding presence.
Made of sacred mixed brass, this medal has naturally aged for nearly a century. The surface shows authentic aging dry, clean, and deeply toned, with classic signs of time: casting marks, natural patina, and traces of original casting clay (din-hun) still visible across the medal. These features are highly sought after and easily authenticated by seasoned collectors.
Phra Khandhararat medals from this first batch come in only two known molds:
Large Champaka Petal
Small Spear-Leaf Shape
Both were cast in the same sacred brass alloy. However, due to lower production numbers, the Small Spear-Leaf mold tends to command a slightly higher collector price (about 1.5x in similar condition). That said, the Large Champaka mold remains one of the most widely loved and easiest to identify due to its clarity and size.
This particular piece has been exceptionally preserved—98% condition, barely circulated, and never cleaned or polished. It retains its original “cabinet tone” and spiritual integrity. The surface glows with authenticity, and under magnification, one can still see the original kiln residue and oxidation patterns expected of a true cast medal from this era.
Spiritual Power and Legacy
Phra Khandhararat medals from BE 2473 are renowned not only for their rarity but also for their potent spiritual efficacy. The blessing ceremony included some of the most revered monks of Nakhon Pathom at the time:
Luang Pu Boon, Wat Klang Bang Kaew
Luang Phor Tha, Wat Panieng Taek
Luang Phor Hoi, Wat Hom Klet
...and several other senior monks of the province. With such an assembly, the spiritual power infused into this batch was exceptional.
These medals have long been respected for bringing:
Metta Mahaniyom (kindness and popularity)
Maha Lap (luck and wealth)
Klaew Klaad (evasion of harm)
Kongkrapan Chatri (invincibility and protection)
Success in business and peace at home
Whether for wear or serious collection, this is a piece that fits into the highest tier of Thai cast medals. It’s increasingly rare to find a specimen in this condition, especially from the original Nakhon Pathom region, where most were either kept in private collections or offered at temples.
