Phra Chetupon – The Sacred Clay Amulet of Sukhothai
A Royal Legacy of Metta, Protection, and Charisma

Hidden just outside the ancient southern walls of old Sukhothai city stands Wat Chetupon —
an abandoned temple, silent today, but once alive with prayers, offerings, and the forging of sacred power.

It was from this very place that the legendary Phra Chetupon was born —
an amulet that, although small in size, carries a history and spiritual gravity that far outweighs its modest appearance.

Crafted in the classic Sukhothai artistic tradition, Phra Chetupon typically takes the form of a small triangular tablet,
barely larger than a fingertip, yet rendered with astonishing precision.
On well-preserved examples, one can see the serene face of the Buddha in Samadhi, with delicate features: the curve of the eyebrows, the gentle shaping of the nose, the quiet posture of meditative strength.

These amulets were not made for the masses.
They were reserved for those who needed true spiritual support — leaders, warriors, those destined to carry great responsibility.

Among royal circles, it was common for princes and princesses to wear Phra Chetupon for its powerful blessings.
In a time when life at court was filled with both political intrigue and personal challenges, the need for Metta (loving-kindness), protection, and authority was not a luxury — it was survival.

The particular variant featured here is the Plaiku Pim,
distinct for its depiction of two Buddhas side by side.
This rare formation represents twin currents of Metta —

One channel directed outward to win affection, favor, and allies,

The other nurturing the inner strength to maintain sincerity and lasting relationships.

Those who wear Plaiku Pim are said to find themselves naturally attractive to others —
whether in social, professional, or intimate settings —
not through force, but through an aura of genuine kindness and undeniable personal gravity.

Over centuries, many different materials were used to craft Phra Chetupon, depending on the temple and period:

Sacred clay

Silvered-lead (Chin Ngern)

Oxidized lead (Chin Takua Sanim Khai)

Each carries its own weight, but the heart of the blessing remains consistent.

Beyond beauty, beyond artistry, the true value of Phra Chetupon lies in its spiritual powers (Phra Phutthakun):

Metta Maha Niyom — Blessings of charisma, magnetism, likability

Klaew Klaad — Protection from accidents, dangers, and unseen harm

Baramee — The development of personal authority, dignity, and spiritual influence

It was, and remains, an amulet for those who must walk among people — to win trust, to shield themselves from betrayal, and to carry themselves with quiet command.

Today, finding an authentic Phra Chetupon, especially a Plaiku Pim in good condition, is exceedingly rare.
Each piece carries the whisper of Sukhothai’s golden age — an era when faith and leadership were inseparable, and spiritual protection was worn close to the heart.

If you seek an amulet that speaks to more than just wealth or luck —
but to the deeper qualities of lasting respect, graceful relationships, and unseen protection —
then the Phra Chetupon remains one of the finest examples left to us from Thailand’s sacred past.
