Somdej Wat Ket Chaiyo is a highly revered amulet lineage created by Somdej Phra Phutthachan (Toh Phrommarangsi) of Wat Rakhang Kositaram. These amulets were originally made to be enshrined inside the Great Buddha image at Wat Chaiyo Worawihan in Ang Thong province, around 1866 CE (B.E. 2409).

𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲

Somdej Toh dedicated this creation as an act of merit for his parents—his mother named “Ket” and his father named “Chai.” The amulets were placed within the large Buddha statue at Wat Chaiyo. In 1887 CE (B.E. 2430), during restoration works ordered by King Rama V, the great image collapsed, revealing the large cache of amulets concealed within. From that moment, Somdej Wat Ket Chaiyo became widely distributed and highly sought after.

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐭

Material: The amulets are made from fine white powder, closely related to those of Wat Rakhang, but with a finer and smaller grain. Ingredients included sacred powders of Phra Phutthakhun (Maharaj, Itthije, Pathamang, Trinisinghe), burnt palm-leaf scriptures, herbs, temple flower offerings, and natural binding resin (tang-iew oil).

Mould and Form: The designs differ from Wat Rakhang and Bang Khun Phrom amulets. Each carries the distinctive “glass frame” border and chest indentations known as “Bai Sri ears,” except for the seven-tier solid-chest model. The bases are typically six-tier or seven-tier formats.

Finishing: The backs and sides are smoothed down, often still bearing subtle impressions of the maker’s fingerprints from the pressing process.

The unearthing of Somdej Wat Ket Chaiyo established it as one of the most recognized and respected lines of Somdej amulets. While created after the Wat Rakhang series, the Chaiyo pieces carry equal weight in terms of sacredness and spiritual authority, widely cherished for blessings of protection, merit, and prosperity.
