Summary

The B.E. 2503 “Lang Koo” Roop Lor of Luang Por Than Klai Vajasit stands as one of the most respected early-era castings associated with the Southern lineage of Wat Suan Khan. Deeply valued among old-school collectors, this batch carries the unmistakable atmosphere of early handmade sacred castings—aged brass surfaces, old mold textures, clear filing marks, and the classic curved-back form that devotees actively search for today.

This particular batch is remembered among senior disciples as an early test casting requested directly by close luksits of Por Than Klai before the larger official temple release in B.E. 2507. Produced in much smaller numbers and circulated quietly among devotees close to the temple, these pieces rarely surface from old collections.

Historical Background

Por Than Klai of Wat Suan Khan was widely known throughout Southern Thailand as the “Golden Mouth Monk.” Devotees believed that whatever he spoke, blessed, or foretold would manifest with unusual speed and accuracy. Stories of his words coming true spread across generations, especially among traders, villagers, and families from Nakhon Si Thammarat and the surrounding provinces.

His reputation for wish fulfillment, protection, and life guidance made his sacred objects highly treasured long even during his lifetime. Many disciples did not merely wear his amulets for protection alone, but kept them close during major life decisions, business matters, travel, and family concerns.

The B.E. 2503 Lang Koo batch occupies an important place in this history. Before the larger B.E. 2507 temple issue became publicly recognized, a smaller group of disciples from Wat Suan Khan requested Por Than Klai to create a limited casting for close followers. This earlier run was not intended as a large public temple release and circulated mainly within devotees connected to the temple lineage.

Origins of the Material

These Roop Lors were cast from blessed brass material made using melted brass sheets personally blessed by Por Than Klai. The metal composition also incorporated sacred mixed-metal elements according to traditional Southern casting methods, contributing to the dense old texture and aged character seen today.

Collectors often look for the naturally matured brass tone, traces of old mold residue within recessed areas, and the hand-finished details left from the traditional casting process. The famous “Lang Koo, Nang Sue Tem” mold remains especially sought after due to the full inscription beneath the base and the strong proportions of the image itself.

Most authentic examples also feature an inserted kring beneath the base, producing a resonant sound when shaken. This detail became one of the defining characteristics of the batch among experienced collectors.

Ritual

The consecration was performed through a simple but traditional ritual conducted under the guidance of the Phra Uchen on an auspicious date and time. Like many older Southern ceremonies, the focus was placed less on grandeur and more on concentrated samadhi and direct blessing transmission from the master himself.

Por Than Klai’s blessings were regarded by devotees as exceptionally direct. Old disciples often described his ceremonies as calm and uncomplicated, yet spiritually heavy in effect. This reputation became one of the reasons why early batches connected to his personal blessing sessions continue to hold strong faith value today.

Blessings & Effects

The B.E. 2503 Lang Koo Roop Lor is traditionally associated with smoothness in life, fulfillment of wishes, family harmony, career progress, and protection from danger. Southern devotees especially regard this batch as suitable for individuals seeking stability and smoother pathways through obstacles in work and personal matters.

Many older wearers believed Por Than Klai’s blessings helped “open the road” during difficult periods of life. Business owners, transport workers, and traders in the South often kept his amulets close during travel and negotiations due to his long-standing reputation for protection and successful outcomes.

The spiritual atmosphere of these earlier castings also feels distinctly old-world in nature. The aged brass, traditional hand-finishing, and compact casting style carry the presence of a period where sacred objects were still produced primarily for faith and close discipleship circles.

Modern Application

I chose to acquire these pieces after meeting an elderly collector friend from the South who is himself a white-robed arjan. These examples came directly from his personal collection, originally obtained through his father who was a disciple of Por Than Klai during that era.

What stood out to me was the sincerity behind how these pieces were preserved over generations. They were not treated merely as collectibles, but as personal spiritual companions kept through important periods of life.

Among collectors today, the B.E. 2507 official release has already reached extremely high market levels, with beautiful examples often commanding prices above SGD $8,000. Because of this, many long-time Southern collectors quietly appreciate the earlier B.E. 2503 pieces for their strong lineage connection, early-era blessing history, and smaller disciple-linked circulation.

Physical Details

This piece measures approximately 1 inch in size and is wrapped in a custom silver frame suitable for both wearing and long-term collection display. The old brass surfaces remain beautifully aged with visible classic casting character throughout the body.

Comes together with Samakom certification for collection confidence and preservation.

Recommended Pairing

This batch pairs especially well with Southern protection-oriented amulets or older wish-fulfillment pieces associated with smooth career progression and family stability. Collectors who appreciate early-era castings with strong lineage history will particularly understand the appeal of these smaller disciple-issued batches connected directly to Por Than Klai’s personal blessing period.
