Lersi Roop Lor with Jinn

Por Sala Tan
Barang artifact

Personal Experiences Shared by Luksits

This particular Lersi Roop Lor was collected from one of Por Sala Tan's luksits, who had kept the piece personally for meditation and wicha practice.

The luksit explained that the piece was unique because of the Jinn residing within it. According to him, the nature of this Jinn was closely connected with meditation, guidance and the spiritual path of the Lersi.

He had relied upon the piece through many periods of meditation and wicha where guidance was required. During times when he was uncertain how to proceed with his practice, he would keep the Lersi close and felt that its presence helped him regain direction and continue.

Over time, it became one of the pieces he regularly kept with him during daily meditation. He described the experience as a quiet form of guidance, helping him maintain concentration and develop greater clarity during practice.

The significance of this account lies in the nature of the Jinn itself. The spirit was said to have followed old Lersi deep into the forest, seeking merit while protecting them during meditation. The luksit's later experiences with the piece closely reflected this original purpose.

Summary

This Lersi Roop Lor by Por Sala Tan is a rare, individually hand-carved piece with an unusual history connecting an old Lersi, sacred Gaduk Chang Kraden, old Jindamanee, and a Jinn seeking merit and good karma.

Por Sala Tan encountered this particular Jinn during his spiritual travels. According to the account preserved with the piece, the Jinn would follow old Lersi practitioners deep into the forest during their meditation, staying close to protect them while they practised and, through doing so, accumulating merit.

During Por Sala Tan's travels towards the Thai–Burmese border, an old Lersi gifted him sacred Gaduk Chang Kraden that had been kept by the Lersi himself.

Por Sala Tan later personally carved this old sacred material into the form of a Lersi Roop Lor. Jindamanee originating from the same old Lersi was subsequently incorporated into the piece.

The Roop Lor was then prepared to house the Jinn, bringing together the sacred material of the old Lersi, his Jindamanee and the spirit whose affinity was with Lersi meditation and protection.

Historical Background – Lersi & Forest Wicha

Within traditional Thai occult practice, the Lersi represents the ascetic master and teacher — a custodian of meditation, ancient knowledge, healing traditions and specialised wicha.

Forest practice has long been closely associated with the Lersi tradition. Remote forests, mountains, caves and border regions provided places where practitioners could withdraw from ordinary surroundings and devote themselves to meditation and spiritual training.

The history of this Roop Lor is closely connected with that tradition.

Both the sacred material and the Jinn associated with the piece originate from accounts involving old Lersi practitioners and deep forest meditation.

The Jinn Seeking Merit

The defining spiritual element of this Roop Lor is the Jinn residing within it.

According to the account passed down with the piece, Por Sala Tan encountered a Jinn whose intention was to accumulate merit and good karma.

The Jinn was known to follow old Lersi practitioners deep into the forest when they entered periods of meditation. It remained close to them and provided protection while they carried out their spiritual disciplines.

This gave the Jinn a particular affinity with meditation, Lersi practice and wicha.

Por Sala Tan subsequently connected this spirit with the completed Lersi Roop Lor, providing it with a sacred vessel whose materials themselves came directly from an old Lersi.

Its traditional role within the piece therefore centres upon guidance, spiritual companionship and protection during practice.

Sacred Gaduk Chang Kraden

The Lersi was personally carved by Por Sala Tan from old sacred Gaduk Chang Kraden.

The material had been gifted to him by an elderly Lersi whom Por Sala Tan encountered during his travels towards the Thai–Burmese border.

Having previously belonged to the old Lersi, the material carried an established connection with the practitioner before it entered Por Sala Tan's possession.

Por Sala Tan preserved the material and eventually carved it into the seated Lersi seen here.

The result is a highly individual Roop Lor whose physical material directly links the piece with the old Lersi from whom it originated.

Old Lersi Jindamanee

Jindamanee from the old Lersi was also incorporated into the Roop Lor.

Jindamanee has a long association with specialised Thai sacred-material and occult traditions, where carefully prepared substances are preserved and used within particular lines of wicha.

In this piece, its provenance is especially important.

Both the Gaduk Chang Kraden and Jindamanee originated from the old Lersi, creating a close material connection between the completed carving and the practitioner who originally possessed these sacred substances.

Por Sala Tan then brought these materials together with the Jinn associated with protecting Lersi during forest meditation.

Sacred Material & Ritual

The construction of this piece reflects several layers of traditional wicha.

The body was individually hand-carved from old Gaduk Chang Kraden received from the old Lersi.

Sacred Jindamanee belonging to the same Lersi was incorporated during its preparation.

The Jinn encountered by Por Sala Tan was subsequently connected with and housed within the completed Lersi Roop Lor.

Together, these elements form a piece whose physical materials and spiritual association share the same underlying theme: Lersi practice, meditation, guidance and protection.

Traditional Blessings

The traditional qualities associated with this Lersi centre strongly upon spiritual practice.

Meditation & Concentration — supporting stillness, focus and continuity during meditation.

Guidance — traditionally associated with receiving direction and clarity when a practitioner becomes uncertain during meditation or wicha.

Wicha Support — kept by practitioners engaged in traditional spiritual disciplines and the development of their own practice.

Protection During Practice — reflecting the history of the Jinn following old Lersi deep into the forest and protecting them during meditation.

Wisdom & Intuition — connected with the Lersi tradition of knowledge, contemplation and spiritual understanding.

Baramee & Spiritual Presence — traditionally associated with strengthening composure and the presence of the practitioner.

Physical Details

The piece depicts a seated Lersi, individually carved from old sacred Gaduk Chang Kraden.

Its facial expression is particularly distinctive, with deeply worked eyes, eyebrows, moustache and long beard. The traditional headdress and robes carry further hand-carved geometric detailing.

A strand of aged dark beads surrounds the upper body, while old sacred cord and fibres remain tied around portions of the figure.

The reverse continues the carving across the headdress, robes and body, demonstrating that the figure was worked as a complete three-dimensional sacred object.

It is presently protected within a custom silver-toned casing.

The old Gaduk Chang Kraden was individually selected and carved by hand, while the Jindamanee and accompanying sacred materials were separately prepared and incorporated into the figure. The resulting surface marks, carving details and natural variations give this Roop Lor its own individual character.

Recommended Pairings

For meditation and wicha practice, this Lersi may be paired with another Lersi-related sacred object associated with the practitioner's own teacher or lineage.

Tao Wessuwan may also be paired with the Lersi where additional guardian qualities, authority and spiritual protection are desired.

A Unique Lersi of Por Sala Tan

The importance of this piece lies in the continuity between its origin, sacred materials and later personal use.

Por Sala Tan received the old sacred Gaduk Chang Kraden from an elderly Lersi during his travels towards the Thai–Burmese border. He personally carved the material into the Lersi form and incorporated Jindamanee originating from the same old Lersi.

The completed Roop Lor was then connected with the unusual Jinn Por Sala Tan had encountered — a spirit remembered for seeking merit and good karma by following old Lersi deep into the forest and protecting them during meditation.

Years later, the luksit who kept this particular piece described experiences that closely followed the same character. He used it repeatedly during meditation and wicha, especially when guidance and direction were required, and eventually incorporated it into his daily meditation practice.

For collectors of Por Sala Tan's deeper works, this is a particularly rare and personal Lersi Roop Lor, bringing together old Lersi sacred materials, Jindamanee, forest wicha and a Jinn traditionally associated with guidance, meditation and protection.
