Personal Experiences Shared by Luksits

A Collector Seeking Better Opportunities

Another type of experience described among Phra Ngan devotees concerns individuals whose work depends upon meeting people and securing opportunities.

A salesperson who had been experiencing a prolonged period of poor results began carrying a Phra Ngan during his daily appointments.

He had previously struggled with customers who repeatedly postponed decisions, even after expressing interest.

After some time, he noticed that conversations became easier and several customers who had stopped responding began contacting him again.

A few pending transactions eventually went through, improving his financial situation.

He attributed the change to the Phra Ngan's traditional Metta and Maha Lap qualities, particularly its association with attracting opportunities when circumstances appeared unfavourable.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Summary

This Phra Ngan by Por Sala Tan represents a distinctive application of traditional Khmer Wicha, incorporating sacred materials originating from the cremation of a deceased Khmer practitioner.

The master belonged to a lineage particularly knowledgeable in Phra Ngan Wicha. Following his passing, Por Sala Tan was invited to attend and assist with the cremation ceremony near the Thai–Cambodian border.

Certain remains were reportedly not completely consumed by the fire. These were collected, subjected to further chanting and subsequently used in the preparation of sacred artifacts.

A portion was entrusted to Por Sala Tan, who carefully separated the materials according to their intended ritual applications.

This particular Phra Ngan incorporates the master's remains, hand-drawn Khmer Yant, cremation-ground soil, ceremonial relics, an old coin and Yin Tong.

Its principal traditional qualities concern windfall luck, prosperity, Metta, personal attraction and favourable opportunities.

Historical Background

Phra Ngan occupies a distinctive position within Thai, Khmer, Lao and Isan occult traditions.

Although its precise historical origins remain debated, Phra Ngan is commonly associated with older Khmer-derived Wicha involving attraction, spiritual influence, protection and fortune.

Unlike conventional Buddhist images, Phra Ngan is generally regarded as a talismanic figure whose ritual purpose depends upon the practitioner's lineage and preparation.

The Khmer Master's Cremation

The history of this particular artifact began when Por Sala Tan travelled towards the Thai–Cambodian border after receiving an invitation from a fellow practitioner.

The practitioner's master had recently passed away, and Por Sala Tan was requested to attend and assist with the cremation ceremony.

The deceased master belonged to a traditional Khmer Wicha lineage, with particular expertise in Phra Ngan practices.

Following the cremation, those present reportedly discovered that certain portions of the remains had not been completely consumed by the fire.

These remains were carefully collected and subjected to chanting over several nights.

Some were subsequently entrusted to Por Sala Tan.

Recognising their significance, he separated the materials according to their intended applications, reserving selected portions for the preparation of different sacred artifacts.

This Phra Ngan was one of the creations associated with those materials.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Origins of the Materials

The materials used in this Phra Ngan are closely connected to the deceased Khmer master and his cremation ceremony.

The principal components include:

  • Nang: A prepared piece of material upon which Por Sala Tan drew the Phra Ngan image and Khmer Wicha Yant.

  • Cremation Remains: Selected remains attributed to the deceased Khmer master.

  • Cremation-Ground Soil: Soil collected from the location where the master's cremation was conducted.

  • Ceremonial Relics: Additional materials retained from the cremation ceremony.

  • Old Ceremonial Coin: A coin associated with the master's final rites, incorporated into the reverse.

  • Yin Tong: A sacred attraction element embedded into the backing.

Particularly significant is the use of materials originating from the same cremation ceremony, rather than unrelated ingredients gathered from different sources.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Ritual

After receiving the selected remains, Por Sala Tan prepared the Phra Ngan according to traditional Khmer Wicha.

The Phra Ngan image was drawn upon the Nang, accompanied by Khmer Yant inscriptions intended to establish the artifact's ritual purpose.

The reverse was prepared using cremation-ground soil, ceremonial relics and the old coin associated with the deceased master.

A Yin Tong was subsequently embedded into the backing, introducing an additional element traditionally associated with attraction and Metta.

The completed artifacts underwent a consecration ceremony involving Por Sala Tan and the practitioner from the deceased master's lineage.

During the ceremony, the blessings of the departed master were also ritually invited, maintaining the connection between the sacred materials and the lineage from which they originated.

The consecration emphasised Maha Lap, windfall luck, attraction and the opening of favourable opportunities.

Blessings and Effects

This Phra Ngan is traditionally associated with several principal qualities:

  • Maha Lap: Attracting fortune, financial opportunities and unexpected gains.

  • Windfall Luck: Supporting favourable circumstances and unexpected financial opportunities.

  • Metta Maha Niyom: Encouraging goodwill, popularity and favourable treatment.

  • Maha Saneh: Enhancing personal charm, attraction and social influence.

  • Business Prosperity: Supporting customer relationships, negotiations and commercial opportunities.

  • Spiritual Assistance: Traditionally associated with guidance and assistance through Khmer Wicha.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Modern Application

This Phra Ngan is particularly relevant to individuals seeking greater opportunities in business, sales and personal affairs.

Business owners and traders traditionally value Phra Ngan for attracting customers, improving commercial relationships and encouraging favourable financial circumstances.

Sales professionals may carry it during negotiations or customer meetings, particularly where Metta and personal influence are considered important.

For individuals experiencing prolonged periods of financial difficulty, its Maha Lap character represents the hope of improved opportunities and unexpected assistance.

The presence of Yin Tong also connects the artifact with traditional attraction practices, making it relevant to those seeking better interpersonal relationships and personal charm.

As a Khmer Wicha artifact incorporating cremation-related materials, it may be kept separately from conventional Buddhist devotional amulets according to the keeper's preferences.

Physical Details

This Phra Ngan is presented in an elongated triangular form and enclosed within an engraved silver-coloured protective casing. The front displays a hand-drawn Phra Ngan figure accompanied by Khmer Wicha inscriptions upon a naturally mottled brown and ochre surface. The reverse contains a circular old coin with visible green oxidation, surrounded by cremation-related materials and an embedded Yin Tong. The backing exhibits irregular textures, mineral deposits and natural colour variations, reflecting its composite construction and the different materials incorporated during preparation.

Recommended Pairing

Phra Somdej provides a traditional Buddhist complement through its associations with Metta, Baramee and general protection.

Phra Kring is suitable for collectors seeking to balance the Phra Ngan's attraction and fortune-oriented qualities with a conventional Buddhist devotional image.

Por Sala Tan's Naman Wahn Gai Daeng may complement the artifact's Metta Maha Niyom and personal attraction themes.

Personal Notes

What makes this Phra Ngan particularly significant is its connection to a deceased Khmer Wicha master whose lineage specialised in Phra Ngan practices.

Por Sala Tan did not simply obtain unrelated sacred materials for its preparation. According to the account accompanying the piece, he was personally invited to participate in the master's cremation ceremony and subsequently received selected remains from those involved.

The decision to separate the remains for different ritual applications reflects his attention to the intended purpose of each creation.

Equally important is the participation of a practitioner from the deceased master's own lineage during the final consecration.

The combination of hand-drawn Khmer Wicha, cremation-related materials, an old ceremonial coin and Yin Tong gives this artifact a character distinct from conventional cast Phra Ngan.

Its strongest traditional emphasis remains Maha Lap and windfall luck, supported by the attraction qualities associated with Phra Ngan and Yin Tong.

For collectors interested in Por Sala Tan's Khmer Wicha, the piece represents a particularly personal connection between the maker, a fellow practitioner and the legacy of a departed master.
