Each example was individually assembled and hand-yanted from naturally occurring relic material. Differences in the curvature and colour of the Keow Mii, yantra inscriptions, metalwork and ritual finishing are therefore natural characteristics of each piece.

Personal Experiences Shared by Luksits

Mala of this type were commonly prepared for Por Sala Tan's luksits, particularly those who practised meditation away from ordinary urban surroundings.

Some luksits would take their mala with them when meditating in remote forest areas, where maintaining concentration could be considerably more difficult than practising at home or within a familiar temple environment.

Natural sounds, darkness, insects, unfamiliar movement and the possibility of encountering wild animals could easily disturb concentration. Luksits described the mala as giving them a greater feeling of security and steadiness, allowing them to settle their attention rather than constantly reacting to their surroundings.

The beads also provided a physical rhythm for recitation. Moving through them gradually helped some practitioners maintain concentration for longer periods and return their attention to the practice whenever the mind wandered.

Outside meditation, luksits regarded the Phra Ngan and Keow Mii combination as useful when dealing with people. The same piece carried for confidence in isolated places could also be used when meeting customers, negotiating or entering competitive environments where both goodwill and personal authority were important.

Historical Background

Across the older borderlands between Thailand and Cambodia, travelling through forests and isolated country exposed people to conditions very different from modern travel.

Traders, practitioners and travellers could spend considerable periods away from established settlements. Within the animist traditions of these regions, protective objects were consequently valued not merely as religious symbols but as companions for journeys into uncertain environments.

Phra Ngan occupies a distinctive place within this tradition. Different lineages interpret the figure differently, but within occult practice it became particularly associated with Saneh, Metta, authority, popularity, fortune and protection.

Por Sala Tan combined this current with Keow Mii.

Rather than relying entirely upon Phra Ngan's attraction qualities, the Mii relic gives the piece a firmer forest character — strength beneath attraction, and protection beneath social influence.

The addition of the mala reflects its intended connection with practitioners and luksits who might spend extended periods in meditation.

Origins of the Materials

The principal natural component is Keow Mii.

Within the tradition surrounding Por Sala Tan's forest works, Mii represents endurance, formidable natural strength and resistance to danger. The relic therefore forms the structural foundation upon which the other workings were established.

Sacred Khmer yantra were hand-inscribed across its surface, particularly for Metta Maha Niyom.

The Phra Ngan image was then mounted upon the relic.

The mala itself is formed from metal beads, creating a durable sequence suitable for repeated handling during meditation and recitation.

Attached alongside the central amulet are four takruts — Takrut 4 Dok — adding a further layer of traditional protective wicha.

The Keow Mii was first prepared as the principal sacred material and inscribed by hand with Khmer yantra.
