This amulet draws its power from the Mekong Naga, one of the most respected serpent guardians in Thailand–Laos cosmology. These beings govern rivers, rainfall, prosperity, and spiritual protection. In the Fang lineage, Por Sala Tan aligned his work with the Naga realm through direct ritual offerings, water consecrations, and forest ceremonies—especially during periods when Naga activity was believed to be active along the Mekong currents.

Por Sala Tan rarely made Naga pieces. When he did, he used river-born relics that resonate strongly with water spirits, ensuring the amulet carried the genuine presence of Payanak rather than symbolic imagery.

2. Historical Background

This piece was carved from gaduk plaa, a dense and spiritually receptive organic material traditionally valued for its ability to “hold” water-aligned energies. It carries the calm but potent energy of the river—steady, deep, and quietly powerful.

Por Sala Tan embedded within it actual relics gathered from the Mekong River, including:

• Mekong soil used in old river rituals to call for prosperity and rain

• Black naga stones, naturally formed river stones believed to be touched or moved by the Naga currents

• Small fragments of river sediment and mineral deposits, representing the flow and fertility of the Mekong

The front depicts a hand-carved Naga with a vivid red eye—symbolising awareness, guardianship, and the Naga’s ability to “see” unseen dangers, both human and spiritual.

On the back, Por Sala Tan installed tarkruts arranged to stabilise the water energy and harmonise the relics. In his lineage, Naga items require precise balancing; water spirits can be powerful but must be guided to support the wearer’s life rather than overwhelm it.

This combination—gaduk plaa, Mekong relics, and Naga stones—is rare and deeply connected to river magic, prosperity rites, and spiritual navigation.
