Por Sala Tan

Historical Background

The Chang Rai batch represents one of the important joint consecrations between Por Tan Suksabai and Por Sala Tan, rooted in old Lanna protective wicha traditions. These pieces were originally distributed quietly to several temples across the Chiang Rai region, intended for genuine protective use rather than commercial releases.

In 2018, I personally travelled through the northern temples where this batch had been placed and collected the remaining pieces back for the Singapore collector community. That entire batch was eventually fully taken up, leaving only pieces that had remained in the possession of old students and villagers.

The example shown here was recently obtained from a luksit in Fang during my October 2025 trip, maintaining the original lineage and circle of practitioners connected to Por Sala Tan.

Construction and Ritual Elements

Each piece follows the traditional Lanna protective effigy form—cast in metal with hand-tied cords applied during consecration. The form, posture, and markings are designed to project a forward-moving protective force.

The consecration was performed jointly by Por Tan Suksabai and Por Sala Tan, combining:

• Northern protective incantations

• Directional rites for safe travel

• Shielding rituals against unseen disturbances

This batch was intended for people who travel, move between locations, or work in unpredictable environments.

Spiritual Function

The Chang Rai batch is well-regarded for three main areas of protection:

1. Travel Protection

These pieces have built a strong reputation as dependable travel companions. They stabilise the environment around the wearer, especially in unfamiliar places such as hotels or homestays where spiritual disturbances may be present.

2. Shielding Against Unseen Interference

The purpose behind the original consecration was to block wandering entities and environmental residue that can affect sensitive individuals. The batch is recognised for its firm, grounded protective field.

3. Modern Workplace Protection

In urban settings, many wearers have experienced protection against workplace negativity—especially issues involving backstabbers, hidden agendas, or hostile colleagues. The energy of the piece cuts down unnecessary interference and helps maintain a clean working space.

Usage in Daily Life
