Ngan Amulet by Por Sala Tan
2" in Silver
This Ngan figure originates from Por Sala Tan during the later years of his active period of making amulets. It represents one of the most potent forms in his catalog, both in terms of materials and spiritual essence.
Construction and Sacred Components
Por Sala Tan employed what he described as the “five prai” formula, combining multiple forms of spiritual relics (From the 5 Maes) into the base material. To strengthen the potency, he further added:
-
Coffin nails taken from ritual funerals.
-
Soil from seven cemeteries, carefully chosen for their strong energy and reputation for restless spirits.
-
The majority of the material was sourced from mass graves of Mae Prais, women who died under tragic or untimely circumstances, known in Southeast Asian occult traditions to carry especially potent spiritual essence.
The final mixture was hand-molded by Por Sala Tan himself into the Ngan form, wrapped with consecrated cord, and marked with gold leaf and other ritual inclusions.
Por Sala Tan’s Assessment
According to his own description, this series carried the strongest Ngan essence available in the amulet circle. Its reputation quickly spread, and both fellow ajarns and close disciples all sought to obtain one.
First-Hand Observation
This piece was obtained directly at the time of creation. The molding process was witnessed personally, and it was at that moment that an advance order was secured. Because of this early access, a number of these pieces were brought to Singapore, becoming part of the local collector network.
Early Reception in Singapore
The batch attracted strong interest, particularly among a group of Singaporean bankers, many of whom acquired pieces. Over time, several of these owners experienced notable progress in their careers and lives, and some remain in contact to this day. Their testimonies contributed to the recognition of this Ngan as not only a rare but also a result-driven piece of Por Sala Tan’s later-period work.
