This piece was created and consecrated by Por Sala Tan, whose works are remembered for their direct connection to liberated spirits and relics. His practice often involved meditating in caves and invoking guardian entities tied to the land and its histories. The guardian Guman presented here carries the essence of one such liberation.

Historical Background

During a retreat in the early 2530s, Por Sala Tan conducted meditation in a cave temple where he had earlier performed the liberation of a jinn. As the process deepened, another presence revealed itself—a Guman guardian who resided within the cave. This spirit wished to leave and serve an individual, but Por Sala Tan already had many Guman in his household and explained that the time might not yet be right.

During the meditation, a cold spot manifested inside the cave. Investigation revealed the physical remains tied to the Guman. Por Sala Tan carefully removed only a paneang relic to embed at the back of this piece, sealing it together with soil from the cave. The remaining relics were honored and cremated in a proper ceremony. Not long after, the cave entrance collapsed, sealing the location permanently. The liberation of this Guman marked the end of its time in the cave.

This piece was completed and then kept in Por Sala Tan’s storage, never released to others. It remained untouched for decades, suggesting it was intended only for an owner far in the future.
