This piece is a Salika carved from gaduk chang by Por Sala Tan, created entirely by hand within a cave setting. At first glance, many would assume Salika pieces are made only for business, charm, and negotiation. Yet, Por Sala Tan’s intention in creating this one was very different. It was originally made for a monk he encountered—someone who did not need the common blessings of sales or worldly success, but rather the spiritual function of Salika in higher meditation practice.
In certain esoteric traditions, the Salika bird is not limited to worldly persuasion but is also regarded as a bridge between realms. Its voice, in spiritual metaphor, carries messages across planes of existence. For monks engaged in deep meditation and ascension through rhelms, this quality becomes essential: to make contact with higher deities, guardians, or celestial beings who oversee those dimensions. That was the true purpose of this piece. Por Sala Tan prepared two—one to give, one to keep. This preserved the flow of the work, ensuring the baramee stayed intact across both halves.
Blessings and Purpose
-
Meditative Ascent: Supports practitioners seeking to reach deeper states of samadhi, guiding awareness upward into subtle realms.
-
Connection to Deities: Functions as a communication bridge, allowing clearer spiritual contact during meditation or rituals.
-
Wisdom and Guidance: Beyond commerce, the Salika brings clarity of thought, insight, and supportive energies for important decisions.
-
Versatility of Baramee: While this lineage is often tied to charm and sales, here the baramee is adapted to spiritual growth and the attainment of higher knowledge.
A Rare Perspective
What makes this piece exceptional is that it challenges the mainstream view of Salika as merely a “business tool.” It reveals the hidden side of the wicha—that Salika can also function as a vehicle of transcendence, helping practitioners communicate across planes and ascend toward liberation. Few masters today understood and applied the wicha in this way, which is why Por Sala Tan’s cave-carved Salika remains a profound example of his versatility and spiritual foresight.
