This Nang Kwak is one of the rarest works of Por Sala Tan, crafted from a piece of kuti wood belonging to Kruba Srivichai, the saintly reformer and revered “Father of the North.” Kruba Srivichai’s baramee shaped the spiritual landscape of Northern Thailand—he was a monk who personally oversaw the construction and renovation of countless temples, and whose name is remembered for his discipline, charisma, and the vast merit he generated for the people.
The wood itself comes from a step of the old staircase of Kruba’s kuti that could no longer be restored during renovations. Although just a small remnant, it carries immense spiritual weight—for it once bore the footsteps of Kruba Srivichai himself. In Thai belief, such relic materials retain the residual merit and presence of the master, radiating an unwavering current of baramee. Por Sala Tan recognised that this sacred fragment was suited for no ordinary creation; it was destined to be transformed into a vessel of wealth and prosperity.
From this limited fragment, Por Sala Tan carved five Nang Kwak figures only. Each was carefully gilded and consecrated, with rituals performed to awaken the inherent baramee within the wood. To harmonise the powerful aura, a takrut drawn from his holy water jar was bound to the image with sacred thread. This step symbolised both the anchoring and the amplification of the wealth-giving energy, ensuring that the piece would not only attract prosperity but also radiate stability and long-term abundance.
