This Nang Kwak roop lor is a rare and historically meaningful piece created by Por Sala Tan in Tachilek, Burma. It represents a cross-border collaboration between Thai and Burmese spiritual traditions during a period when local Burmese monks were seeking to initiate the practice of amulet-making—a tradition largely absent from their lineage.
Material & Casting Process
At the time of creation, Burmese monks possessed no established materials or moulds for amulet crafting. Por Sala Tan advised them to use broken and aged brass Buddha statues, many of which were over 200 years old and had been housed in temple ruins. These were melted down and poured into traditional plaster moulds prepared under Por Sala Tan’s direction, shaped specifically into the form of Nang Kwak—a figure symbolic of wealth attraction and commercial prosperity in both Thai and Burmese cultures.
The casting was performed in small batches within the temple grounds, overseen by Por Sala Tan and a few senior Burmese monks. This ensured both spiritual intention and ritual alignment during the blessing process.
Sacred Inserts at the Base
What elevates this batch above typical wealth-fetching amulets is the inclusion of highly sacred base materials:
-
Payanak Relics – Collected by Kruba Pantita, these naga-associated relics are traditionally revered for protective and serpentine blessings of power, flow, and charm.
-
Takrut by Kruba Pantita – Inserted with precision to invoke sacred mantras related to personal elevation, business fortune, and borderless influence.
-
Yaa Lek (ยาลัก) – This is one of the most potent herbal substances used for attracting luck, wealth, and attention. It is the primary base for “Som Poi,” a ritual herbal paste used in holy bathing and anointment ceremonies to draw favor and cleanse misfortune.
After insertion, the base was sealed and capped to preserve the ingredients' energy and stabilize the spiritual imprint of the piece.
