Size: ~2 inches
This is an early-generation Suer Yan Boran amulet by Por Sala Tan, one of the most respected northern Thai practitioners of advanced wiccha. This particular piece dates to the early B.E. 2500s, making it among the earliest documented creations from his hand.
It was specifically made for his close luksits (disciples), many of whom were still in training and frequently traveled across provinces and national borders to source rare sacred materials for ritual use.
Function and Significance
This item is crafted in Keow Mii, a rare and spiritually potent material and sacred burial compounds. Its small size (~2”) is highly practical for daily wear, especially for field practitioners, and is often sought after by collectors due to both its portability and age.
The etched yantra (mystic diagrams) are those of the Suer Yan, a powerful esoteric wicha embodying the energy of the mystical tiger spirit. In northern Thai animist and Lanna wiccha traditions, Suer Yan is not just symbolic—it represents a shape-shifting spiritual force known for its ability to:
-
Shift form to avoid danger
-
Mask the presence of the bearer during crossings or sensitive operations
-
Attract or repel entities as needed
-
Multiply spiritual baramee (charisma and prestige)
-
Aid in wish-fulfillment and long-distance merit-seeking journeys
These qualities made the amulet ideal for ritual practitioners, traders, monks, and forest wanderers engaged in border-crossing work or spiritually sensitive missions.
The amulet is preserved in its original form of carrying—a wire-wrapped structure known as the “bird cage.” Before plastic or acrylic wrapping was available, wearers manually wound wire around the amulet to secure it for travel or wear. The patina and pressure marks on the Keow Mii surface clearly attest to its age and prolonged handling.
Such preservation methods are often found only on amulets worn by long-time field practitioners, indicating that this piece was used actively and respected for its effectiveness.
