Mae Nang Kwak of Mount Popa – Red Mai Takien Wood, Spirit Liberation, and Devic Infusion by Por Sala Tan

This Mae Nang Kwak figure, created by Por Sala Tan, is unlike any other in his collection. It carries both rare material and a deeply layered spiritual narrative—rooted in Burmese cosmology, traditional animism, and merit-based invocation.

Material: Red Mai Takien Wood from Mount Popa

The piece is carved from a rare red variant of Mai Takien, harvested from the slopes of Mount Popa, Myanmar—revered as the spiritual dwelling of the Nats, Devas, and other higher entities. While Mai Takien is traditionally known as a white wood linked to female spirits and abundance energy, this red-toned variant is extremely rare and believed to hold fiery life-force energy associated with quick action, opportunity, and divine responsiveness.

The wood used in this piece was personally sourced by Por Sala Tan’s students during their pilgrimage to Mount Popa. A small portion was carefully brought back to Thailand, originally reserved for the making of Si Hu Haa Taa (a 4-faced and 5-faced spirit talisman). Only the final branch remnant remained, which became the basis for this special Mae Nang Kwak.

Spiritual Event: Spirit Invocation and Liberation

According to Por Sala Tan, while playing his spirit guitar—a traditional method he uses to enter trance and communicate with subtle beings—a Mae (female spirit) revealed herself. She signaled her desire to be liberated from the earthly realm and to ascend.

However, as a lay arjan, Por Sala Tan recognized that he did not possess sufficient baramee (spiritual authority) to perform a full liberation rite. Out of ethical respect for the spirit and ritual integrity, he invited eight of his monk disciples to conduct a 30-minute liberation ceremony, invoking the necessary blessings to raise the spirit to the Teap Realm—a heavenly state aligned with Deva consciousness.

Once uplifted, it is believed that a refined portion of her essence remained and was willingly infused into this statue. As such, the Mae Nang Kwak in this piece does not merely represent symbolic prosperity—it houses the vibrational presence of a grateful, enlightened spirit.

Energy and Results

Since its consecration, this specific Mae Nang Kwak has reportedly brought strong results, particularly in business and food-related ventures. Initially kept by Por Sala Tan’s own daughter, it was credited with helping stabilize and grow her food business. Later, the piece was entrusted to Ac Ji from whom this piece was acquired.

Significance for Practitioners

This Mae Nang Kwak represents several key aspects:

  • Material Rarity: Red Takien from Mount Popa is virtually unheard of in traditional Thai talisman-making

  • Multi-layered Blessing: Involves cross-border ritualism, multi-monk participation, and spirit transformation rites

  • Active Energy: A liberated and now elevated Mae Nang Kwak spirit, whose energy continues to support the lineage

Collector’s Perspective

This is not a mass-market item. It is a one-of-one devotional piece created from the final remnant of sacred wood, and with a very specific spirit history. For serious practitioners, it offers a unique connection to:

  • Female spirit guides (Mae energy)

  • Myanmar’s devic cosmology via Mount Popa

  • Por Sala Tan’s spiritual network, including his monk disciples

It is best kept in a clean, respected space, occasionally offered with simple items such as white flowers, sweet drinks, or incense—depending on the user’s practice.
