This is, without question, one of the strangest and most spiritually powerful relics I’ve ever encountered.

It began in the deep forest, where a chang 🐘 began behaving in a way its mahoot (caretaker) could not explain. The elephant had cleared all the trees in a 10-metre radius all except one. Then, for 30 days, it refused to eat and bowed its head repeatedly to this single tree, as if in reverence.

At first, the mahoot thought the chang had gone mad. But when it passed away weak, emaciated, yet peaceful he knew something deeper had occurred. Stricken with grief and confusion, he later began to dream of a woman at the tree. She was strikingly beautiful, yet deeply unsettling: she had no feet.

This happened three nights in a row, and each time the dream became more vivid. On the fourth night, around midnight, he went to the tree — not dreaming — and saw her, awake and before him. Terrified, he sought out Por Sala Tan, hoping for answers.

Por Sala Tan meditated briefly, and within a single minute, he knew: the tree contained the essence of an elephant-headed Lersi, an ancient guardian spirit and knower of hidden wisdom. The chang had not gone mad — it had seen the Lersi and spent its final days venerating the spirit, eventually absorbing its energy in full devotion.

Por Sala Tan liberated the remaining energy with ease. These were pure yang energies — not malevolent, not hungry, but ancient and heavy. In under five minutes, he sealed the site and asked the mahoot to release some of the relic material to select monks and arjans. However, the heart of the energy, the true spiritual core, came from the jamuk chang relic
