Each Keow Mii naturally differs in curvature, size, colour and surface. Por Sala Tan therefore had to construct every piece individually around the relic available, giving these artifacts a distinctly personal character.

Personal Experiences Shared by Luksits

Luksits have always tended to hold on to Por Sala Tan's unusual personal pieces, particularly when they knew that the materials could not easily be sourced again.

Historical Background

Por Sala Tan obtained the Keow Mii during a journey into Myanmar to attend a ceremony.

During this journey he encountered a Lersi who practised Lersi Serming Pai wicha. The two practitioners spent time exchanging knowledge and discussing their respective methods.

Their meeting developed through mutual respect. Before they parted, the Lersi presented Por Sala Tan with several rare relics as a gesture of goodwill following their exchange.

Among them were Keow Mii.

For Por Sala Tan, their importance came not merely from being unusual natural materials, but from their provenance. They had been personally given to him by another practitioner following an exchange of wicha.

Only a limited quantity was available, and each tooth could therefore become only one individual artifact.

Origins of the Materials

The Keow Mii forms the physical and symbolic foundation.

Within traditional interpretation, the bear represents strength, endurance, courage and the defence of territory and resources. In Hanuman Phok Sap, this provides a firm base beneath the softer qualities of Metta Maha Niyom.

The tooth contains a Metta Maha Niyom takrut, prepared around the qualities of goodwill, acceptance, persuasive communication and favourable relationships.

It was then coated with Phong Wan Roi Paet — 108-herb powder. The ritual number 108 traditionally conveys completeness and abundance, making the herbal mixture particularly appropriate for an artifact concerned with growth and prosperity.

Traditional Burmese wax seals the preparation, physically binding the different components together.

A further Takrut Phok Sap — wealth and abundance takrut — strengthens the financial intention before the Hanuman figure completes the composition.

Ritual

Por Sala Tan began with the Keow Mii itself, preparing the natural cavity and body of the tooth to receive the Metta Maha Niyom takrut.

The relic was subsequently coated with Phong Wan Roi Paet, surrounding the internal takrut with the herbal preparation.

Burmese wax was then applied to seal and bind the materials.

A second takrut carrying the Phok Sap wealth intention was incorporated externally, giving the artifact two complementary directions: one towards people and relationships, and another towards livelihood and financial opportunity.

Finally, Hanuman was positioned above the Keow Mii.

Symbolically, the arrangement places Hanuman in command of everything below — Metta, herbs, wealth wicha and the strength of the bear relic brought together beneath a single guardian.

The traditional purpose of Hanuman Phok Sap rests upon three closely connected qualities: Metta, wealth and courage.

Metta Maha Niyom concerns being received favourably. In modern life this can be understood through easier communication, customer goodwill, useful introductions, support from senior people and stronger professional relationships.

Phok Sap concerns material prosperity — supporting trade, income, opportunities and the preservation of resources already accumulated.

The foundation is a naturally curved Keow Mii, retaining the original colouring and characteristics of the tooth.

A Metta Maha Niyom takrut is inserted within, while Phong Wan Roi Paet coats the preparation. Traditional Burmese wax forms the dark sealing layer visible around much of the body, protecting and binding the internal materials.

A wealth takrut is incorporated externally, while a seated Hanuman figure crowns the upper portion of the artifact.

The result is a compact layered construction combining Keow Mii, Metta Maha Niyom, 108-herb powder, Burmese wax, Phok Sap wicha and Hanuman within one individually prepared piece.

Personal Notes

The rarity of this piece begins with the Keow Mii itself.

Por Sala Tan received only several rare relics from the Lersi he encountered in Myanmar following their exchange of Serming Pai wicha and knowledge. Once those materials had been used, the same provenance could not simply be reproduced.

For this reason, unusual artifacts made from these relics were generally found among Por Sala Tan's direct or close luksits.

Luksits often kept such pieces for many years because they understood that some of the original materials were extremely difficult to source again.

I eventually came across this Hanuman Phok Sap through one of Por Sala Tan's luksits.

Beyond the rarity of the Keow Mii, what makes the piece particularly interesting to me is how complete its construction is. Metta brings people closer, Phok Sap directs opportunity towards livelihood, Keow Mii provides endurance, and Hanuman gives the courage to act when that opportunity appears.
