Lersi Dern Dong

Por Sala Tan
2.5 Inches
Mainstream Artifact

Individual Craftsmanship

Because every relic differs naturally in shape, texture and ageing, and each carving and inscription was completed individually by hand, every artifact has its own character.

Personal Experiences Shared by Luksits

Lersi artifacts have traditionally appealed to luksits who are going through periods requiring patience, direction and persistence.

The symbolism of this particular piece is especially strong. Lersi Dern Dong represents the wandering forest ascetic, while the wild boar represents an animal capable of surviving difficult terrain and continuing forward when confronted by obstacles.

Luksits commonly associate such pieces with remaining composed when circumstances are uncertain, recognising when to move and having the determination to continue when progress becomes difficult.

For those running businesses or managing demanding work, its traditional meaning can be particularly relevant: do not become distracted by temporary obstacles; remain grounded, find the path and continue forward steadily.

Summary

This Lersi Dern Dong is one of Por Sala Tan's more unusual natural-relic artifacts.

The Lersi was hand-carved directly onto Keow Moo Tong Deang, retaining the original form of the wild boar jaw. The reverse carries hand-inscribed sacred yantra, while Sai Sin, takruts, sacred herbal powders and Burmese wax complete its ritual construction.

It brings together two complementary symbols: the wisdom and guidance of Lersi with the courage, endurance and survival instinct of the wild boar.

Its traditional focus is therefore centred upon protection, courage, determination, guidance and overcoming obstacles.

Historical Background

Lersi Dern Dong represents the wandering forest ascetic — a Lersi travelling through remote forests and wilderness in pursuit of knowledge, meditation and spiritual discipline.

The forest occupies an important place within older Southeast Asian spiritual traditions. It is both a place of danger and a place of learning, where an ascetic must depend upon discipline, awareness and knowledge rather than ordinary comforts.

The walking staff carried by the figure reflects journeying, support and disciplined movement, while the talaphat, or ceremonial fan, connects the image with spiritual practice and teaching.

This makes Lersi Dern Dong particularly symbolic of the journey through uncertainty: knowing how to proceed even when the path ahead is difficult.

Origins of the Materials

The foundation of this artifact is Keow Moo Tong Deang, a wild boar jaw relic.

Wild boars have long been recognised throughout the forests and mountainous regions of Northern Thailand. Their physical toughness, territorial nature and ability to survive difficult environments naturally gave rise to associations with courage, endurance and resilience.

Within older regional traditions, naturally obtained animal relics could be ritually prepared by experienced practitioners, with their symbolic qualities combined with yantra, takruts and other sacred materials.

Por Sala Tan followed this approach here by transforming the natural jaw relic into a Lersi artifact rather than concealing its original form.

The wild boar therefore remains an important part of the object's identity.

Ritual

After selecting the jaw relic, Por Sala Tan hand-carved Lersi Dern Dong directly onto its surface.

Sacred yantra were inscribed onto the reverse to reinforce its intended purpose. Sai Sin and takruts were then incorporated around the relic.

The natural cavity within the jawbone provided another layer to the construction. Por Sala Tan filled this section with sacred herbal powders before sealing the preparation with Burmese wax.

The completed artifact therefore combines carving, yantra, sacred thread, takruts, herbs and ritual wax within a single natural relic.

Blessings and Effects

The traditional qualities of this Lersi Dern Dong revolve principally around protection, guidance and perseverance.

The Lersi represents wisdom, discipline and the ability to find one's way through difficult circumstances. The wild boar adds the qualities of fearlessness, resilience and determination.

Rather than retreating when confronted, the boar pushes forward. Symbolically, this represents the strength to face obstacles directly while remaining grounded enough to recognise the correct path.

For this reason, the artifact is traditionally associated with courage during uncertainty, protection against obstacles, personal authority and steady progress.

Modern Application

Lersi Dern Dong is particularly meaningful for those experiencing periods of change or demanding circumstances.

For business owners, it may be kept as a reminder of persistence and steady progress when business conditions become difficult. For those in leadership or competitive professions, its traditional qualities emphasise courage without recklessness and authority supported by discipline.

It is equally suitable for collectors drawn to Por Sala Tan's natural-relic work, where the original material remains clearly visible and forms an essential part of the finished artifact.

Physical Details

Traditional focus: Protection · Courage · Guidance · Endurance · Overcoming Obstacles

Recommended Pairing

Lersi Dern Dong may be carried independently for guidance, protection and perseverance.

It also pairs naturally with an artifact focused upon wealth or metta, particularly for someone in business. The accompanying piece may support opportunities and favourable relationships, while Lersi Dern Dong represents the discipline, courage and persistence needed to carry those opportunities through.

Personal Notes

Keow Moo Tong Deang reflects Por Sala Tan's approach to sacred-object making, where natural relics are respectfully combined with carved symbolism, sacred yantra and ritual consecration.

The addition of the Lersi carving transforms the wild boar relic into more than a protective talisman alone. It brings together two enduring symbols of the Northern Thai forest tradition.
