Deity / Amulet
Phra Kring Yutthahatthi (“War Elephant Buddha”) represents victory, righteous leadership, and protection. The name commemorates the historic battle where King Naresuan the Great achieved a decisive single-combat victory atop a war elephant at Don Chedi, Suphanburi, in B.E. 2135 (1592). In Thai spiritual tradition, this imagery embodies the ability to overcome formidable challenges, defend one’s domain, and lead with courage.
Historical Background
This amulet was produced in B.E. 2513 (1970) by Phra Rakkhita Wanno Muni (Thir), abbot of Wat Pa Lelai, Suphanburi. The chief ritual master was Ajahn Sai Sumano, known for his mastery in sacred metal composition and high ceremonial standards. The mould was carved by renowned artisan Kasem Mongkhoncharoen, with the casting using Nava Loha (nine sacred metals) according to traditional formulae.
The consecration took place on January 25, 1970—Thai Armed Forces Day—at Wat Pa Lelai and the historic site of Don Chedi. The ceremony was presided over by Somdet Phra Wannarat of Wat Phra Chetuphon (Wat Pho), with the participation of 108 senior monks and masters from across Thailand. The grand scale of the ritual and the amulet’s association with King Naresuan’s legacy has made it one of the most respected and sought-after items in the “King Naresuan” category.
