Sacred Craftsmanship

The Phra Somdej Pae Pan, Pim Kaenean Blok A, B.E. 2510, is one of the highly regarded early Phra Somdej editions created by LP Pae Khemangkaro of Wat Pikulthong, Singburi.

Recognised among collectors as a Pim Niyom (popular mould), the Pae Pan series remains one of LP Pae's trademark creations, reflecting his deep devotion to Somdej To Phrommarangsi of Wat Rakhang.

Each artifact was individually formed from carefully prepared sacred materials, with natural variations in texture, colour and surface characteristics making every piece distinctive.

Personal Experiences Shared by Luksits

A Fellow Collector's Favourite – Nearly 30 Pieces

One fellow collector whom I have known since my Pearl's Centre days has always been particularly fond of LP Pae's Phra Somdej Pae Pan Kaenean.

Among the many amulets he collected over the years, this was one edition he consistently returned to.

He personally swears by this Somdej and has tremendous confidence in wearing it. At one point, he had accumulated close to 30 pieces, all in exceptionally competition grade condition.

What stayed with me was not simply the number he owned, but how much he genuinely appreciated this particular edition.

Devotees who wear LP Pae's Phra Somdej commonly associate them with reassurance, protection and Metta Maha Niyom.

Summary

The Phra Somdej Pae Pan, Pim Kaenean Blok A, B.E. 2510, is a classic and highly collectable early powder amulet by LP Pae.

Its compact size, traditional Somdej design and association with the celebrated Pae Pan series have contributed to its enduring popularity.

The Pim Kaenean is particularly appreciated by collectors who prefer smaller amulets that can be worn comfortably every day.

This example is further distinguished by its aged powder surface, surviving traces of gold leaf and ornamental gold casing.

A timeless LP Pae classic and one of the recognisable designs within his extensive Phra Somdej tradition.

Historical Background

LP Pae Khemangkaro (B.E. 2448–2542) was the highly respected former abbot of Wat Pikulthong, Singburi, widely remembered for his Buddhist teachings, charitable contributions and extensive amulet-making tradition.

His devotion to Somdej To Phrommarangsi of Wat Rakhang strongly influenced his approach to creating Phra Somdej.

The Pae Pan series, introduced in B.E. 2510, became one of his most recognised powder amulet editions, preceding the subsequent Pae 2 Pan and Pae 3 Pan releases.

An important detail in the edition's history is the meaning of Pae Pan.

While Pae refers to LP Pae himself, Pan is traditionally associated with Phra Athikan Pan, the former abbot of Wat Pikulthong who ordained LP Pae as a novice monk.

The name therefore carries a connection to a teacher whom LP Pae deeply respected.

Today, the Pae Pan series remains a familiar and established name among collectors of LP Pae's early amulets.

Origins of the Materials

The Phra Somdej Pae Pan was traditionally created using sacred powder compounds prepared according to LP Pae's established practices.

Materials associated with the series include:

  • Phong Ittijay: Traditional sacred powder associated with Metta Maha Niyom.

  • Phong Pathamang: Sacred powder prepared through traditional Buddhist inscriptions.

  • Phong Maharaj: Traditionally associated with goodwill and personal influence.

  • Phong Trinisimha: A sacred powder used in traditional protective Wicha.

  • Phong Phutthakhun: Powder associated with Buddhist devotional practices.

Additional ingredients are described in collector accounts as including sacred floral pollens, powdered religious manuscripts and other consecrated materials.

LP Pae was known for preparing and accumulating sacred powders over many years, following traditions associated with Somdej To.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Ritual

The B.E. 2510 Pae Pan series was created within LP Pae's established tradition of preparing sacred powders and consecrating Phra Somdej.

According to traditional accounts, LP Pae placed considerable importance on the preparation of sacred powders through the writing and erasing of Yant, accompanied by chanting and meditation.

His practice was strongly influenced by his respect for Somdej To and the traditional methods associated with Wat Rakhang.

The finished amulets were subsequently blessed according to LP Pae's Buddhist consecration practices.

Rather than focusing solely on the physical appearance of his amulets, LP Pae emphasised the importance of proper religious conduct, meditation and the observance of the Five Precepts.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Blessings and Effects

The Phra Somdej Pae Pan is traditionally associated with several principal blessings:

  • Metta Maha Niyom: Encouraging goodwill, harmonious relationships and favourable reception from others.

  • Chok Lap: Traditionally associated with good fortune and financial opportunities.

  • Kha Khai Dee: Supporting favourable business dealings and commercial relationships.

  • Klaew Klaad: Believed to offer protection from danger and unforeseen difficulties.

  • Baramee: Associated with personal confidence, stability and spiritual merit.

Among LP Pae's followers, the Pae Pan series is generally regarded as a well-rounded Buddhist amulet suitable for everyday wearing.

Modern Application

The Pim Kaenean is particularly suitable for collectors and devotees who prefer a compact Phra Somdej.

Its small size makes it convenient for everyday wearing, whether at work, during business activities or while travelling.

The traditional associations with Metta, protection and prosperity also make it a meaningful choice for those seeking a single, versatile Buddhist amulet.

For collectors, the Blok A variation offers an established design within one of LP Pae's most recognisable early editions.

Physical Details

A compact rectangular powder Phra Somdej featuring a seated Buddha beneath a traditional arched frame, resting upon a multi-tiered pedestal. The Pim Kaenean Blok A retains the characteristic proportions of the Pae Pan series in a smaller format. This example displays an aged greyish powder surface with traces of gold leaf on the front, while the reverse features a raised sacred Yant. The amulet is housed in an ornamental gold box with decorative borders.

Recommended Pairing

The Phra Somdej Pae Pan Kaenean may be worn independently as a principal Buddhist amulet, reflecting LP Pae's traditional associations with Metta, protection and prosperity.

For those who prefer pairing, a Phra Sivali may complement its traditional associations with good fortune and favourable opportunities.

Collectors who appreciate LP Pae's lineage may also wear it alongside other early Pae Pan editions.
