Phra Kring Arahant – Luang Por Ophasi (BE 2498 / 1955)
Phra Kring Arahant, cast in mixed metal in the year 2498 BE (1955), is often referred to as "Phra Kring Luang Por Ophasi" because it contains sacred old metal (referred to as "gold over a thousand years old") that was blessed by Luang Por Ophasi himself.
This amulet is the same image as the principal Buddha image in the ordination hall (Ubosot) of Wat Ratchabophit, known as "Phra Buddha Angkiras." The consecration ceremony was held at Wat Ratchabophit and was presided over by 108 revered monks.
According to historian Ajarn S. Plai Noi, Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat, who was deeply interested in mystical sciences, had great faith in Luang Por Ophasi. He even received a consecrated holy water vessel from him, which he used for facial cleansing rituals.
When Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat was a General and the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, he initiated the creation of Phra Kring Arahant in 1955, marking his 48th birthday (4 cycles of the Thai zodiac calendar). His intention was to contribute a principal Buddha statue to Buddhism. At the time, Wat Suwan Chindaram in Pathum Thani was in the process of constructing a new ordination hall but lacked a principal Buddha image.
Field Marshal Sarit sought guidance from senior monks such as Somdej Phra Sangharaj (Vas Vasano) and Phra Khru Athorn Thammanuwat of Wat Ratchabophit, whom he highly revered. The new Buddha image, cast in the Sukhothai style with a lap width of 2 cubits, was ceremonially cast at Wat Ratchabophit on November 14, 1955. It was named "Phra Phuttha Sayam Phu Phan Pichit."
Simultaneously, Phra Kring Arahant was created, modeled after the principal Buddha statue in the Ubosot of Wat Ratchabophit.
A total of 10,009 Phra Kring Arahant amulets and 100 two-faced Phra Kring amulets were created. The crafting process involved the skilled artisans of Ban Chang Lor (a traditional metal-casting community), led by Master Fong. The sacred metal plates—comprising gold, silver, copper, and brass—were inscribed with mystical yantras by more than 108 revered monks from across Thailand.
Notable monks who contributed their blessings and inscriptions included:
Somdej Phra Wachirayanwong (Supreme Patriarch, Wat Bowonniwet)
Somdej Phra Wanrat Sanghanayok (Wat Benjamabophit)
Luang Por Ophasi (Bangmod Ashram)
Phra Mongkol Thepmuni (Luang Por Sodh, Wat Paknam)
