Sacred Craftsmanship

The Phaya Tao Ruean “Ruay Ruay Ruay” was produced in the distinctive turtle form for which LP Liew became celebrated, combining the image of the master, sacred inscriptions and an extensive yantra composition within a single compact medal.

This example is produced in Nawat, a traditional sacred multi-metal alloy. The warm, dark surface and naturally developing patina give the piece considerable depth, particularly around the recessed inscriptions and yantra lines.

Each medal was individually struck and finished from its prepared sacred metal mixture, so natural variations in tone, patina, surface and striking are expected and give every surviving example its own individual character.

Personal Experiences Shared by Luksits

Among LP Liew's luksits, the Phaya Tao Ruean is particularly associated with steady wealth, business progress and the gradual accumulation of stability.

Business owners frequently favour LP Liew's turtle amulets because their character is traditionally understood as wealth that continues to build rather than fortune that appears briefly and disappears.

Collectors share experiences of previously quiet businesses gradually receiving more enquiries, old customers returning and new customers arriving through recommendations. Others describe periods where cash flow became easier to manage and work opportunities appeared more consistently.

The “Ruay Ruay Ruay” edition has consequently become especially popular among merchants and people whose income depends upon customers, negotiations and continual commercial activity.

Some luksits also associate the turtle with surviving difficult financial periods. Progress may initially appear slow, but circumstances gradually improve until debts become manageable and stability returns.

This reflects the deeper symbolism of Phaya Tao Ruean itself.

The turtle does not represent hurried success.

It represents longevity, endurance and steady advancement — moving forward continuously until the destination is reached.

Summary

The Phaya Tao Ruean “Ruay Ruay Ruay” was created in B.E. 2536 (1993) in connection with the 88th birthday of LP Liew, one of Nakhon Pathom's most respected masters of the Phaya Tao Ruean tradition.

The project was commissioned through the Royal Thai Mint, producing a particularly refined interpretation of LP Liew's famous turtle form.

The name “Ruay Ruay Ruay” — Rich, Rich, Rich carries a direct connection to LP Liew himself. After giving blessings in Pali, he was remembered for frequently concluding with:

“Ruay, Ruay, Ruay.”

The phrase consequently became both the name and the defining character of this edition.

Created partly for charitable purposes, proceeds were directed towards public-benefit projects including improvements to the Kamphaeng Saen Scout Camp and construction of an inpatient building for Kamphaeng Saen Hospital.

This example is the Nawat version, combining the traditional wealth symbolism of Phaya Tao Ruean with one of the classic sacred metal compositions used in Thai amulet making.

Historical Background

LP Liew Pannako was born in B.E. 2448 (1905) and became closely associated with Wat Rai Tang Tong in Kamphaeng Saen, Nakhon Pathom.

Over the course of his life, he became one of Thailand's most recognised masters associated with Phaya Tao Ruean — the King Turtle.

LP Liew lived to the age of 95 before passing away in B.E. 2543 (2000). His longevity further strengthened the association between his lineage and the traditional symbolism of the turtle.

Even after his passing, devotees continued travelling to Wat Rai Tang Tong to pay respects before the large representation of LP Liew seated upon Phaya Tao Ruean.

Within Thai tradition, the turtle carries several auspicious meanings.

Its long life represents longevity.

Its protective shell represents security and protection.

Its steady movement represents continuous progress.

Its association with water and traditional cosmology further connects it with abundance and an enduring livelihood.

LP Liew's practice transformed this ancient symbolism into one of the most recognisable sacred-object traditions of modern Thai amulet culture.

The Meaning of “Ruay Ruay Ruay”

The edition's memorable name was deliberately chosen.

Ruay - means wealthy or prosperous.

It expresses something almost universally desired, but it also had a personal connection with LP Liew.

After completing formal blessings, LP Liew was known among his followers for concluding with the simple wish:

“Ruay Ruay Ruay.”

For his luksits, the words came to represent LP Liew's personal blessing for prosperity, sufficient livelihood and better circumstances.

When the B.E. 2536 turtle was created, the phrase became a natural name for the edition.

Origins of the Materials

The “Ruay Ruay Ruay” series was produced in several metals, ranging from precious-metal examples to versions intended for wider distribution.

This particular example is Nawat.

Nawat is traditionally understood as a carefully prepared sacred multi-metal alloy. Rather than presenting the bright uniform appearance of silver or gold, Nawat commonly develops a deeper and more complex surface character.

With age and handling, shades of brown, bronze, reddish copper and darker oxidation can appear across the medal.

These variations are particularly attractive on a detailed Phaya Tao Ruean because the darker recesses naturally emphasise the image of LP Liew, the inscriptions and the extensive sacred geometry across the reverse.

The Nawat issue is recorded as having been produced in approximately 24,888 pieces.

Ritual

The B.E. 2536 “Ruay Ruay Ruay” edition was created during LP Liew's lifetime and received his direct consecration.

For devotees, this is an important distinction.

LP Liew was not simply the figure commemorated upon the medal; he was the living master responsible for its blessing.

The consecration combined Buddhist chanting, meditation and LP Liew's established Phaya Tao Ruean wicha, directing the traditional qualities of the turtle towards prosperity, livelihood, metta, protection and stability.

The charitable purpose behind the project also contributed to its merit-making character, connecting the creation of the medals with benefits directed towards the wider community.

Blessings and Effects

The “Ruay Ruay Ruay” turtle is traditionally associated with several complementary qualities.

Maha Lap & Choke Lap — attracting favourable opportunities and unexpected fortune.
Wealth & Livelihood — supporting steady income, financial stability and the accumulation of resources.
Business & Trade — traditionally favoured by merchants, shopkeepers and entrepreneurs seeking stronger customer activity.
Metta Maha Niyom — encouraging goodwill, approachability and favourable relationships with customers, colleagues and people encountered through work.
Steady Progress — advancement that develops gradually and remains sustainable.
Debt & Financial Recovery — traditionally carried by those seeking to rebuild their finances and establish healthier cash flow.
Klaew Khlaad — protection from danger and avoidance of serious misfortune.
Longevity & Stability — reflecting the long life and enduring nature traditionally represented by the turtle.

The overall character is therefore not merely sudden wealth.

It is wealth accompanied by stability, longevity and continued progress.

Modern Application

The “Ruay Ruay Ruay” edition remains particularly suitable for people involved in business, sales, trading and customer-facing professions.

For a business owner, its symbolism centres upon attracting customers while developing a stable and lasting livelihood.

For those working in sales or commission-based professions, the Metta aspect is traditionally associated with smoother communication, stronger relationships and repeated opportunities.

For employees and professionals, Phaya Tao Ruean represents gradual career development — building trust, experience and Baramee rather than expecting advancement overnight.

It is equally meaningful during financially difficult periods.

The turtle's lesson is particularly simple:

Do not measure progress only by speed.

Slow progress that continues forward can eventually become lasting prosperity.

Physical Details

This example is the Nawat version of the Phaya Tao Ruean “Ruay Ruay Ruay”, B.E. 2536.

The medal follows the characteristic Phaya Tao Ruean turtle silhouette.

At the centre of the obverse sits the image of LP Liew in meditation, surrounded by sacred characters and inscriptions. Additional inscriptions follow the outer body of the turtle, while smaller sacred markings occupy the limbs and upper section.

The reverse is dominated by an elaborate yantra grid, filled with sacred Khom characters and surrounded by additional inscriptions extending throughout the turtle-shaped field.

The Nawat surface has developed a mature brown-bronze character that complements the dense relief of the design.

This example is presently housed within a finely engraved silver casing, protecting the original medal while leaving both its portrait and extensive reverse yantra visible.

Recommended Pairing

The Phaya Tao Ruean “Ruay Ruay Ruay” can comfortably serve as a principal daily wealth piece.

For business and sales, it pairs naturally with Metta Maha Niyom pieces where customer relations, negotiation and approachability are important.

For those seeking greater opportunity, it may be combined with a Choke Lap amulet — the latter representing opportunity while Phaya Tao Ruean supports the stability required to retain and develop that opportunity.

It also pairs particularly well with Roop Lors of respected meditation masters, adding Baramee, guidance and composure to its established wealth character.

For many devotees, however, LP Liew's turtle requires little additional support. Its traditional qualities already cover wealth, metta, protection, longevity and steady advancement.

Personal Notes

The appeal of LP Liew's Phaya Tao Ruean extends beyond its reputation as a wealth amulet.

The turtle carries a philosophy.

It moves slowly, but it continues.

It protects itself without abandoning its destination.

It survives for a long time and advances without unnecessary haste.

This gives the “Ruay Ruay Ruay” edition a particularly balanced interpretation of prosperity.

True wealth is not simply receiving money.

It is having the ability to attract opportunity, retain what has been earned, survive difficult periods and continue building over time.

The name of the edition captures LP Liew's familiar blessing:

Ruay. Ruay. Ruay.

Yet the Phaya Tao Ruean beneath those words provides the deeper lesson — prosperity is strongest when it is accompanied by patience, stability and longevity.

For collectors of LP Liew's sacred objects, the B.E. 2536 Nawat “Ruay Ruay Ruay” Phaya Tao Ruean remains a particularly representative example of the lineage for which he became legendary.
