Sacred Craftsmanship

This Waen Nang Kwak is a classic sacred ring issued by LP Kuay Chutindharo of Wat Kositaram, Chainat, in B.E. 2521 (1978), during the temple's significant Luk Nimit boundary consecration ceremony.

Each ring was individually finished using traditional production methods, with natural variations in surface texture, plating, colour and form giving every piece its own character.

Personal Experiences Shared by Luksits

Among LP Kuay's followers, Nang Kwak rings have long been associated with Metta Maha Niyom, customer attraction and successful trading.

Shopkeepers and traders traditionally carried Nang Kwak talismans in the belief that they encouraged customers to approach, improved communication and helped create a welcoming business environment.

Some collectors also associate LP Kuay's Nang Kwak rings with smoother negotiations, improved relationships and opportunities arising through personal connections.

For many longtime luksits, the appeal of this edition lies in its association with LP Kuay's B.E. 2521 consecration ceremony, rather than any particular account of extraordinary results.

Its connection to one of Wat Kositaram's most significant ceremonies makes it a desirable piece among collectors of LP Kuay's sacred objects.

Historical Background

LP Kuay Chutindharo

B.E. 2448–2522 (1905–1979)
Wat Kositaram (Wat Ban Khae), Chainat Province

LP Kuay Chutindharo was born on 2 November 1905 in Ban Khae, Chainat Province.

During his early years, he studied traditional Khmer and Pali scripts before entering the monkhood on 5 July 1924.

He subsequently studied Buddhist teachings, traditional medicine and sacred Wicha under several respected masters, including LP Thao, LP Im and LP Derm.

LP Kuay later became abbot of Wat Ban Khae, now known as Wat Kositaram, where he gained widespread recognition for his Sakyant, Takrut, ritual knives and protective amulets.

His sacred creations became particularly respected for their association with protection, Metta, authority and personal fortune.

The B.E. 2521 Luk Nimit Ceremony

In B.E. 2521, Wat Kositaram organised a major Phuk Phatthasima and Luk Nimit ceremony, involving the establishment and consecration of the temple's sacred ordination boundaries.

This was regarded as one of the temple's most important ceremonial events during LP Kuay's lifetime.

Several types of sacred objects were issued for the occasion, including the Waen Nang Kwak.

The edition holds particular historical significance because it was produced towards the final period of LP Kuay's life, before his passing on 12 April 1979.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Origins of the Materials

The ring was manufactured using copper with a nickel-plated finish, a practical combination commonly found in traditional Thai sacred rings.

The copper forms the body of the ring, while the nickel plating provides its silver-toned appearance.

The raised Nang Kwak image and sacred markings were incorporated into the original ring design.

Over time, the plated surface may develop natural wear, revealing darker tones beneath and contributing to the aged appearance of surviving examples.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Ritual

The Waen Nang Kwak was issued in connection with Wat Kositaram's B.E. 2521 Phuk Phatthasima and Luk Nimit ceremony.

This important Buddhist occasion involved the formal establishment of the temple's ordination boundaries, accompanied by religious observances and consecration rituals.

According to the edition's traditional history, LP Kuay personally empowered the sacred objects prepared for this ceremony.

His consecration practices drew upon the Buddhist teachings and protective Wicha he had studied throughout his monastic life.

Within this context, Nang Kwak represented the combination of Metta, prosperity and protection traditionally sought by traders and householders.

Modern Application

For collectors, the ring also represents an accessible form of LP Kuay's sacred craftsmanship, combining everyday wearability with the historical significance of the B.E. 2521 ceremony.

Physical Details

This Waen Nang Kwak is made from nickel-plated copper, featuring an oval raised image of Nang Kwak seated with one hand lifted in a beckoning gesture.

Sacred markings decorate both shoulders of the ring, while the interior features a recessed setting beneath the central image.

The silver-toned surface shows natural ageing and wear consistent with its vintage character. The illustrated example is accompanied by a Thai amulet authentication certificate identifying it as the B.E. 2521 Waen Nang Kwak of LP Kuay, Wat Kositaram.
