Somdej Nang Phaya – Red Gem Inset Edition
- Wrapped in Lanna 925 Silver
Luang Phor Koon | Sacred Lamphun Relics | 700-Year Chiang Mai Commemoration (B.E. 2538)
This exceptionally rare Somdej Nang Phaya image represents a pivotal intersection between the Lamphun-Lanna amulet heritage and Luang Phor Koon’s legendary blessing tradition. Created to mark the 700th Anniversary of Chiang Mai, this piece is distinguished by its inlaid red gemstone, sacred inscription by the original artisan, and—most significantly—the ancient spiritual materials used in its formation.
Sacred Composition: Materials From the Era of Phra Rod (Over 1,300 Years Old)
The primary sacred component of this batch consists of highly venerated powders originating from Lamphun, the very same lineage associated with the Phra Rod amulets of Hariphunchai, among the five great Benjapakee amulets of Thailand. These materials are estimated to be over 1,300 years old, representing one of the oldest and most spiritually potent sources of relic matter used in modern-era consecration.
It is on record that Luang Phor Koon personally requested these sacred materials to be brought to Wat Ban Rai, as he saw in them the ideal base for crafting efficacious protective and wealth-attracting amulets. In exchange for his blessings and participation, these relics were offered by the northern committee — a gesture that initiated a mutual collaboration between the Central and Northern sacred lineages.
This act of mutual merit-making is widely acknowledged by collectors and historians to be the catalyst for Luang Phor Koon’s subsequent rise in efficacy, giving birth to many of his now-famous batches. The Somdej 700 Years amulet, therefore, represents the genesis point for a new generation of hybrid consecrations.
Dual Consecration Process
-
Initial Blessing: Conducted at Wat Ban Rai, where Luang Phor Koon personally consecrated the sacred powders and offered metta chanting upon their arrival.
-
Grand Ceremony: Held at Wat Phra Singh, Chiang Mai, under full Lanna liturgical rites, with senior Northern monks presiding. This gave the batch a distinct Lanna-centric energetic tone, often associated with endurance, clarity, and spiritual gravitas.
-
Final Empowerment: In October B.E. 2538, the batch was returned to Luang Phor Koon for a second and final empowerment—embedding both Central Thai metta-karuna energy and Northern spiritual resilience.
Distinguishing Features
-
Inlaid Red Gemstone – Symbolizing spiritual fire, vitality, and wealth magnetism.
-
Visible Hair Relics (Kesa) – Embedded within the amulet matrix; a rare feature testifying to the authenticity and depth of the consecration.
-
Handwritten Edge Inscription – A distinct signature by the original maker, unique to each piece and virtually impossible to forge.
Application & Recognition
Intended originally as a commemorative sacred gift, this batch rapidly gained collector attention due to:
-
Its composite spiritual lineage (Lamphun + Wat Ban Rai)
-
Direct involvement of Luang Phor Koon in a non-commercial, merit-making context
-
The remarkable spiritual materials used—regarded as the most sacred of the Lanna region
Due to limited distribution and high spiritual integrity, the piece is now rarely encountered in secondary markets. Among those who recognize its historical significance, it is often viewed not merely as an amulet, but as a cornerstone artifact in the evolution of post-1970s Thai Buddhist talismans.
