Historical Background

LP Kasem Khemako remains one of the most respected meditation masters associated with Northern Thailand.

Born in Lampang on 28 November B.E. 2455 (1912), he came from a northern aristocratic family and eventually became known for an exceptionally restrained and ascetic approach to monastic life.

His name became inseparable from Susan Trilak in Lampang, where his simple manner of practice attracted devotees from throughout Thailand.

Rather than being remembered principally for elaborate temple administration, LP Kasem became respected for meditation, discipline and an austere way of life.

His reputation eventually extended far beyond Northern Thailand, yet his relationship with local Lampang families remained particularly important. Some villagers knew him personally, while others maintained connections extending through their parents and grandparents.

LP Kasem passed away on 15 January B.E. 2539 (1996).

The preservation of his robes, hair and remnants from ceremonies therefore carries particular significance among devotees who regard such materials as physical witnesses to the master's life and practice.

Origins of the Materials

The centrepiece attached to the locket is an original B.E. 2536 Roop Muen from the Seng Li Ho issue.

The name Seng Li Ho reflects Thai-Chinese prosperity language traditionally connected with successful commerce, good trade and favourable financial circumstances. The issue was created around the Chinese New Year period, making prosperity an especially appropriate theme.

The Roop Muen itself was made using LP Kasem's official sacred powder, pressed into a rectangular tablet bearing his portrait.
