Kruba Oor Wat Sumnaksong Pratart Doi Jomwaek, Chiang Mai
Age: 96 | Years in Monkhood: 62+ | Origin: Shan State, Myanmar
Kruba Oor, born in B.E. 2461 (1918) in the village of Mooban Numnor, Shan State (Laikha Province, Myanmar), is one of the last surviving forest monks to have walked both paths of war and deep spiritual cultivation. His birth name was associated with Mr. Janta and Mrs. Heng.
-
Ordained as a novice at age 7, he remained in the monkhood until 15 before being called to serve in World War II, where he fought under the Tai Shan military faction. He reportedly led troops in combat with zero casualties, protected by sacred incantations and merit, with accounts of guns jamming, bombs failing to detonate, and enemy fire inexplicably missing him.
-
After the war, he re-ordained in B.E. 2497 under the guidance of Chao Pinya, the Shan Buddhist patriarch. Since then, he has lived the austere life of a forest monk, deep in the mountains of Chiang Dao, without electricity, modern infrastructure, or concern for material convenience.
-
Known for his invulnerability blessings, battlefield magic, and as a healing master, Kruba Oor was highly revered by both military generals (such as Lt. Gen. Ye Shan) and everyday devotees. He is recognized for treating illnesses using a blend of magic and spiritual energy.
Kruba Oor is regarded as “Pra Supatipanno”—a monk who is exemplary in conduct and unwavering in discipline. His students have helped preserve his legacy through rare batches of amulets, most of which were made for soldiers, traders, and pilgrims from across the Golden Triangle.
