Phra Ajahn Plian Panyapatipo was not only one of Thailand’s most respected forest monks, but a deeply practiced teacher whose life embodied discipline, wisdom, and unwavering compassion.

Born in 1933 in Sakon Nakhon Province, he lived a life of worldly responsibility before choosing to fully renounce and walk the path of Dhamma.

After his ordination in 1959, he sought out some of the most accomplished meditation masters in the country — including Luang Pu Thet Thetsarangsi, Luang Pu Phrom, and Luang Pu Waen Sujino — learning directly from the forest tradition's most revered elders.

He was known for his intense practice, sharp mindfulness, and a profound ability to explain Dhamma in a way both beginners and seasoned practitioners could understand.

In 1966, he became the abbot of Wat Aranyawiwek in Chiang Mai, where he remained until his peaceful passing in 2018. During his decades of service, Phra Ajahn Plian authored multiple books on the Eightfold Path, Five Aggregates, and Four Foundations of Mindfulness, all rooted in direct experience — not theory.
