While resting there, he became aware of what he understood to be the whispering presence of a jinn.

Through meditation, he attempted to communicate with it.

The jinn conveyed that it had remained trapped within the cave for many years and could not leave the mountain because it had been bound or enslaved to a Graduk relic hidden somewhere inside the cave.

According to the account, the jinn then guided Por Sala Tan towards the concealed Graduk.

What followed was not simply the taking of the material, but an agreement between practitioner and entity.

Historical Background

Por Sala Tan's practice frequently brought him into remote mountainous and forested areas.

Such journeys were undertaken for meditation, retreat and the gathering of herbs, woods, minerals and other traditional materials used in his sacred-object work. Caves were also important environments for solitary practice because of their isolation from ordinary daily activity.

It was during one such journey that unusually heavy weather forced him to remain inside a cave.

While waiting for the storm to pass, Por Sala Tan entered meditation. During this period, he perceived a whispering communication from an unseen presence.

The presence identified itself as a jinn and communicated that it had been confined to the area for a very long time.

Its confinement was connected to an old Graduk relic hidden within the cave.

Origins of the Materials

According to the lineage account, Por Sala Tan did not initially know where the Graduk was located.

The jinn itself guided him towards it.

After locating the old relic, Por Sala Tan continued communicating with the entity to understand why it remained there. The jinn explained that it had been bound to the Graduk, preventing it from freely leaving the cave and the surrounding mountain.

Por Sala Tan did not immediately remove the relic.

Instead, an understanding was reached.

The jinn agreed that, if released from its long confinement and taken from the mountain, it would assist and watch over the devotee entrusted with the resulting sacred object.

Only after this agreement did Por Sala Tan bring the Graduk out of the cave.

The origin of the material is therefore inseparable from the story of the jinn itself.

Ritual

After removing the Graduk from the mountain, Por Sala Tan prepared it according to his own wicha.

The material was carved into the unmistakable form of a skull, providing a physical vessel through which the relationship established in the cave could be maintained.

The ritual principle behind the piece is different from simply capturing or forcibly binding an entity.

According to the account preserved by his luksits, the jinn was already bound to the Graduk long before Por Sala Tan discovered it. Much of the natural structure has deliberately been preserved, particularly across the reverse where the porous internal texture of the Graduk remains clearly visible. The aged cream, brown and darkened areas follow the natural material rather than a uniform decorative finish. The piece is presently protected within a custom clear casing with a suspension loop for carrying or wearing.

Recommended Pairing

Because the Prai Kasip is spirit-associated, a mainstream Buddhist amulet makes the most balanced companion.

A Phra Somdej, Phra Kring or another Buddha-form amulet may be worn alongside it as the principal Buddhist foundation, while the Prai Kasip retains its specialised role of warning, awareness and protective assistance.

For altar placement, it may likewise be kept respectfully alongside Por Sala Tan's other working pieces while maintaining the Buddha image in the principal position.

Personal Notes

What makes this particular Prai Kasip significant is not simply that it was carved from Graduk.

Its story begins with Por Sala Tan being driven into a mountain cave by a storm, followed by meditation, communication with a jinn, the discovery of a hidden relic and an agreement that allowed the presence to leave its long confinement.

It later passed into the hands of one of Por Sala Tan's close luksits, who carried it during journeys towards the border for meditation.
