Early customers were essentially willing to try something unfamiliar and judge it through their own experiences.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe feedback from this small batch became surprisingly memorable.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSeveral luksits subsequently spoke of \u003cstrong\u003elottery winnings and unexpected financial gains\u003c\/strong\u003e. Others described money returning through channels they had not anticipated — an old debt being repaid, an unexpected gift, a refund or additional income appearing at the right time.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne luksit associated the period with both an unexpected financial gain and a later \u003cstrong\u003eimprovement in his career position\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey were among the experiences that caused the original holders to become particularly attached to this batch.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMore than a decade later, I managed to obtain this example back from a private collector who had kept a few pieces from \u003cstrong\u003e the original group of thirty\u003c\/strong\u003e. He had held onto them for many years and was reluctant to release them.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor me, finding one again after so long brings the story back to the very early days of Por Sala Tan's pieces.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003chr\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eSummary\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eKhun Chang Rup Sup\u003c\/strong\u003e was created by Por Sala Tan in \u003cstrong\u003eB.E. 2557 (2014)\u003c\/strong\u003e as a highly limited wealth and Choke Lap artifact.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIts principal emphasis is \u003cstrong\u003elottery luck, unexpected financial opportunities, windfalls and the movement of wealth from unusual channels\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe composition centres upon \u003cstrong\u003efive Mae Prai\u003c\/strong\u003e, cemetery materials from five locations, wealth herbs and materials associated with gambling luck. These were combined with the figure of Khun Chang, whose image is traditionally associated in popular Thai culture with considerable material wealth and worldly abundance.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRather than being primarily a Saneh piece, this particular preparation was directed towards \u003cstrong\u003eChoke Lap and Rup Sup — receiving and gathering wealth\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWith only \u003cstrong\u003e30 examples originally prepared\u003c\/strong\u003e, it remains one of the smaller early batches from this period.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003chr\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eHistorical Background\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eKhun Chang is one of the central figures of the Thai literary tradition \u003cstrong\u003eKhun Chang Khun Phaen\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAlthough his character is complex, his name became strongly associated with \u003cstrong\u003ematerial prosperity and considerable wealth\u003c\/strong\u003e. It also preserves part of the early development of his collector following.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003chr\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003ePhysical Details\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is an individually formed \u003cstrong\u003eKhun Chang Rup Sup\u003c\/strong\u003e made from a coarse brown sacred compound containing cemetery soil, sacred ash, herbal and floral materials, together with visible fragments from its ritual preparation. The front carries the raised seated image of Khun Chang with surviving \u003cstrong\u003eold gold leaf\u003c\/strong\u003e, while the reverse remains comparatively plain and exposes the texture and embedded materials of the original mixture.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe irregular surface, small inclusions and differences in density are characteristic of its handmade construction rather than modern uniform production. There was no established reputation for customers to rely upon. They took the pieces, tried them and later returned with their own experiences.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis \u003cstrong\u003e5 Mae Prai Khun Chang Rup Sup\u003c\/strong\u003e was one of the batches that people became particularly reluctant to part with.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOnly \u003cstrong\u003e30 pieces\u003c\/strong\u003e were made, and over the years they largely disappeared into private collections. Some were retained by their original owners, while others were eventually passed within families.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMore than ten years later, I was fortunate to come across an early collector who still held \u003cstrong\u003ethree pieces from that original batch\u003c\/strong\u003e. It took considerable persuasion before I managed to obtain this example back from him.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSeeing it again — with its coarse cemetery mixture, embedded materials and old gold leaf still visible — immediately reminds me of that earlier period.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor me, it is not simply a rare Por Sala Tan artifact.
